Assignment for today. This is challenging.
If this is too difficult email me and I will explain it differently or we can work on team.
When you are thinking about this assignment here is an example of how to figure out the answers:
This is the answer to number 1.
You must first subtract to find the difference 300 - 180 = 120
What is 120 out of 300? 120/300 = .40 Change .40 to a percent by multiplying by 100
.40 x 100 = 40%
This was a decrease.

Hello and welcome back to on-line learning.
If you require any extra help with the assignments please email me at [email protected]. We can set up a video conference.
Today we are going to review adding and subtraction of decimals.
Watch the video below if you require a review.
Hello today is March 26, 2020. It's snowing!
Please use a separate piece of paper to answer the above assignment. Add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators.
Remember to find a common denominator first.
I posted the answers to yesterdays questions at the end in case some students are not finished yet.
Hello today is Wednesday, March 25, 2020. It's a beautiful sunny day. Please go for a walk today.
The answers will be posted tomorrow.
Problems for today:
1.) Evan was leading in a race by 5/8 of a length. He won the race by 1/2 a length.
By how much did Caleb catch up by the end of the race?
2.) Water is pumped into our holding tank. After one hour, 1/5 of the tank is filled.
a) After 3 hours, how full is our tank?
b) How long does it take in total to fill our water tank?
Number 3 is just a fun challenge.
3.) The sum of each row, column, and diagonal in the magic square must equal 1.
Copy the square and fill in the blanks. (Have fun with this one. Remember a fraction is equal to one when the top (nominator) and bottom (denominator) number are the same. Example: 4/4, 8/8, etc....)
first row blank blank 5/12
second row 7/12 1/3 blank
third row 1/4 blank blank
Determine the fraction for the blanks. Always find a common denominator first.
1. 5/8 common denominator is 8 so 5/8 stays the same and 1/2 is multiplied by 4 top (nominator) and bottom (denominator)
1/2 = 1 x 4 = 4
2 x 4 = 8 5/8
subtract 4/8
equals 1/8
Caleb caught up by 1/8.
2. One hour 1/5 in 3 hours one way would be to add 1/5 + 1/5 + 1/5 add the numerators = 3/5
In 3 hours the water tank would be 3/5 full.
To fill the tank it would have to be 5/5 full.
5/5 subtract 3/5 = 2/5
It would take 2 more hours to fill the water tank.
3. I hope you had fun with this one.
first row blank blank 5/12
second row 7/12 1/3 blank
third row 1/4 blank blank
First find a common denominator. Which would be 12
1/3 multiply numerator and denominator by 4 = 4/12
1/4 multiply numerator and denominator by 3 = 3/12
first row 2/12 5/12 5/12
second row 7/12 4/12 1/12
third row 3/12 3/12 6/12
Email me at [email protected] if you have any questions.
Please practice your multiplication tables.
The best way is to skip count.
For example, start with your 3 times table and repeat the steps until you have them memorized. 3,6,9,12,15,18,21,24,27,30.

Fraction sheet
Please complete the following problems: Remember you must find a common denominator first.
1.) We made muffins in math class today.
Some students got to take some home to share or eat on the bus.
WAIT, no eating on the bus! lol
Evan took 1/4 of a tray.
Caleb took 1/3 of a tray.
What fraction of a tray are Evan and Caleb taking together?
1/4 multiply the top and the bottom by 3 = 3/12
1/3 multiply the top and the bottom by 4 = 4/12
add the top numbers and keep the bottom 3+4=7/12
Remember the top number is the numerator and the bottom number is the denominator.
2.) A customer went to Costco and filled their cart 1/6 full of toilet paper and 1/3 full of hamburger.
How much space was left in the cart?
1/6 common denominator would be 6 This fraction stays the same 1/6
1/3 multiply the numerator and the denominator by 2 2/6
Add the numerator and the denominator (top and bottom) 2/6
1/6
2+1=3/6
Remember the question asked how much space was left.
We are using 6ths which means the whole empty cart must start at 6/6. After adding the toilet paper and the hamburger the cart was 3/6 full.
Now we subtract 6/6 - 3/6 = 3/6 left in the cart. Remember to simplify. Divide the top and bottom by 3 = 1/2 is the correct answer.
3.) Kacey showed you the following work for an addition problem:
1/4 + 1/3 = 2/7
a.) Explain the error Kacey made.
Kacey forgot that fractions must contain the same denominators which we change by finding the common denominator (the same number both 4 and 3 can divide into evenly). Start with the smaller number which is 3.
multiply 3 x 2 = 6 multiply 3 x 3 = 6 multiply 3 x 4 = 12
multiply 4 x 2 = 8 multiply 4 x 3 = 12
Both number have a common denominator of 12 1/4 multiply 1 x 3 = 3
multiply 4 x 3 = 12
1/3 multiply 1 x 4 = 4
multiply 3 x 4 = 12
Now 1/4 is 3/12
Now 1/3 is 4/12
b) Show Kacey how to add the fraction correctly.
3/12 + 4/12 = 7/12 only add the top numbers the bottom numbers stay the same
Please use a separate piece of paper to answer the above assignment. Add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators.
